I just installed a new type of hard top that is designed to fit to your existing bimni bows. I think it turned out great. I am also getting rail attachments that will enable me to use my old side curtains, with minor modifications.
I first found out about this hard top at the Annapolis boat show and thought it was very interesting. It turned out to be a very cost effective way to get a new hard top for my boat. After giving the manufacturer all the dimensions they need, I got a package of all the parts complete with instructions. I was able to put it together and mount it, with a friend, in about 2 1/2 hours. Here is a link to there web site-
The extension that you mentioned was a result of the measurements that I gave them. They only requested a measurement from front bimni bow to stern bimni bow, I added on the additional 12" for the additional shading.
Their site shows similar installations. It definitely seems worthwhile to add a little more coverage if the structure can accommodate it. Thanks again for the information.
