I am about to spray gel coat and there appears to be a few ways to do this. I have a 2.3 mm nozzle HVLP gun. I know I will have to thin it and the suggestions have been Duratec, styrene, patch aid and fast patch. From what I understand, patch aid, fast patch and Duratec have been formulated for gel coat thinning but Duratec is not recommended for use below the waterline, so I am inclined to use fast patch or patch aid, but not sure which. Does anyone have experience using these products? Also, do you still need to use was if using patch aid or fast patch? How much did you thin with these? Also, I have been told that you have to wait for the previous coat dry before applying the next coat.
Thanks.

Don't know if you've seen this article, but it seems to address your questions. He talks about adding patch booster for the first two as well as adding it and the wax for the 3rd coat to allow final cure as well as drying/curing times. He also covers proper thickness for each coat to avoid too thick of an application which will eventually result in cracks occurring. Hope this helps:
