I have a 1962 16/17 in mint condition all orignal no spider cracks i mean Mint!! I'm considering putting a T-top over the mahoganey console , more to protect the origanal. Would this devalue the boat, or take away from it's classic look. Hull no. 3665. I don't want to ruin a good thing or would it??

A T-Top? I'm not sure I'd attach one to a wooden console. As for devaluing your boat, it's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
Have you thought of just putting on a nice quality Bimini top instead of a T-top?

A bimini top would look and function better.

I have the same boat, albeit with some spider cracks... Just bought a bimini from Specialty Marine. All stainless (not aluminum), well priced and excellent service. I highly recommend them.

I would go with the bimini as well. If the boat is that nice I would contact W.J.Mills about a canvas.

A T-top will limit where you go. Bridges etc.

After doing alot of wood restoration on my 15, I bought a mooring cover from Mills. It is great quality and they give good service. The only problem is attaching the cover from the dinghy while the boat is on the mooring. BUT, it is a great cover!

Being a bit of a nut about my teak, we chose a combination of console & rps covers for when she's sitting at the dock for any length, and then a large bimini for when we're out and about. This also minimizes the maintenance on the teak from season to season. See our Personal page for pics. I'm not crazy about T-tops on classic whalers, but that's very much a personal preference thing. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the help sounds like a bimini top will get my vote. No sense in unneeded holes in boat. It had the original bimini with it but dry rotted i'll try to match it to the same hardware.
