I got her in the water and had a blas with the kids and the old kids from the marina. When I get it on plane the water just sprays back in the boat. The more throttle the more water. It was splashing into the splash well in the back so I left the plug out of that and dealt with it. It has a 40 horse Evinrude VRO on it and the water really sprays up on the motor. It does appear the previous owner had a fin on the motor and now it is gone. This sprays enough water in the boat it soaks my back when I give it full throttle. Any help would be greatlly appreciated. I don't think my hand pump can do it every weekend.

It could be several things. How low is your cavitation plate? You may have your motor set too low on your transom. Also, do you have a speedometer pitot tube on your transom? It could cause back splash spray too.

It really sprays in over the transom. Even the water rides up all the way to the lower trim cowl and splashes out. The motor was installed by Northwerstern Marine in Michigan by the tags on the boat. I would think it was on properly. But after the restoration it is hard telling. It does have a speedo pitot and fin but I couldn't believe it would spray that much water. It will fill the back of her in a hurry at speed. It really just seems to ride too deep in the rear? It kind of baffles me. How do I figure out if it is a long or short shaft?

Can you post some side and rear profile shots so we can get an idea of where your engine is sitting on the transom. Where does your A/V plate sit in relation to the bottom of the transom?

Could the holes in the cavitation plate be causing the spray to come into the boat? Maybe taping over these and seeing if there is a difference would be helpful?

That 13' should have a 15" short shaft motor on it if the transom hasn't been built up 5" taller.
Are you using a 20" long shaft motor?

Well I've tried and tried to load pics to share with you to no avail. How do I go about measuring the motor to tell what the shaft size is? It has about a 3 inch notch in the transom with a splash well. The motor is mounted with the top I will call them transom hooks about 2 1/2" above the notch. They have a rounded plastic like base which fits the rounded hull perfectly. When lowered the cavitation plate is real close to lining up with the bottom of the hull. Performance has been awesome but the spray is annoying to say the least. Bought a SE fin for the motor today and will give it a whirl. This will plug the holes on it maybe it will help raise the ride of the motor. Can anyone tell me what to look at to post some pics? My Sony camera seems to take too large of a image and I tried to resize on Infared as was suggested and can't. Thanks again for all the help!!!!!
