Goodevening, i purchased a 1990 (i believe!!) Montauk 17. I am really struggling getting a colour match (RAL number) to do some minor gel coat repairs. I want to do the repairs myself for self satisfaction, i have done very little gel coat work before, HELP!!!
Thanks Jerry

I looked up your Stencil number of 3B5919 and that makes your hull a 1980 year model.
See where your Stencil number fits in here.

Are you sure it is a Montauk?

If so, your console should look like this one from 1977 to 1982.

If not, let us know what other model it might be.

OK Joe you were correct in the fact it i believe it is a Newport not a Montauk! Very similar hull design? I have just had a Suzuki 90hp fitted which the Suzuki dealer made a terrible mess of fitting. However i am struggling to find a colour match to repair some surface dings and chips, any ideas?
Many thanks Jerry

keep in mind two important elements.

Your gelcoat has oxidized and is not the "factory" color.

You need to detail the boat with fiberglass heavy duty compound (never wet sand) to remove that layer and bring back the shine. You have done enough when you can see yourself in the reflection.

Match to the color of the boat.

International shipping is difficult for gelcoat as it is considered hazardous cargo. You will need to have a fiberglass professional mix up the color.

Where in the UK are you? Might know some owners in your area.

Your 17' hull is the same colors as mentioned by me in this discussion. Whaler made the two color hulls from 1973-1982. This should help you get the correct color match for both interior and exterior.
