I'm shopping for my first Whaler and have my heart set on a Montauk. Not many Whaler's in my area, so I was hoping someone out there could give me a brief download on hull changes from the late 70's to early 90's. I've done quite a bit of searching and really haven't found much. If anything did change, it must have been very subtle. Thanks in advance.

Very Important articles that it sounds like you might have missed reading on WhalerCentral.

Personal Pages (scroll down to Montauks)

Montauk with Smirkless Hull - 1973 to 1975
Montauk with Smirked Hull - 1976 to 2002
Montauk 170 with Accutrack Hull - 2002 to present

So, from what you are looking for, the hull was the same from 1975 to 2001 with only minor changes for the interior.
Teak Bow Locker was changed to Fiberglass around 1988/1989.
A lot of other teak was replaced with fiberglass or composite materials in later years to eventually having no wood items at all.

That should get you started.
