Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 13' Interior placement

I am installing an interior in my 13'. The previous owner removed the old interior and filled in all the holes in the hull. My dilema is the placement of the clamps on the gunnels. I'm not sure the exact spot where they are supposed to be screwed into the gunnel. What size screw is used? What is the measurement from either the front or back to the clamp? If someone could send me some pics and measurements I would be grateful.

I just pulled the clamps from my 1966 13 footer. With some atypical foresight, I actually measured their placement before removing them. The trail edge of the clamp is 13 inches from the splash well.

Kevin
There is a differnence between a 66 and a 81. A 66 had the full width splash well.
If you look on the left hand side bar of this sight and click downloads thena look at the wood placements diagram this will help.
Several folks on this sight including myself have opted to move the seats, console and thus the clamps forward 6 inches or so. I really like the way this setup works for me. (Just my 2 cents worth input).

Hi Robin, I looked in the wood location diagram. It shows where the anchoring wood is under the glass, not where the accessories go.

Kevin. When I get home from work this evening, I'll measure my 13's distance from the full splashwell to the back of the rear seat. You can adjust from there.

What year is the Whaler? The wood locating diagrams in the download section will help. Measure and find the wood in the floor to mount the console and you can place everything else from there.

I just need to know where to secure the clamps. I don't want to install too forward or back.

Kevin,
I mounted my seat clamps with the front of the clamp approx 29 inches from the point where the bow section rises from the floor. Or measuring from the back, the end of the clamp is approx 30 inches form the transom. My 13 does not have the full width splash well only the small splash well directly in fornt of the motor. I took the placement of the wood diagrams and went from there.
If I can be of any help let me know. Happy Whaling!

Kevin,

Sorry it took so long to return with an answer.

From the front of the splash-well to the rear edge of the back seat is 26 inches in distance.

My boat does not porpoise and it rides quite nicely at all speeds.

Three years ago I moved the new interior I built 6" forward from the original position, when I restored my 13 footer. The ride was much improved, and I recommended this to many people on this site and the "other" site. Every one that tried it was happy about it as far as I know. You will lose the wood backing for the console cleat, but if you search this site, you will find the method f0r attacking wood parts when there is no wood backing.

Cliff, I moved yours forward a bit. Forgot how much though.

I guess I will lay the interior in the boat and try to shift it as far forward as comfort permits.

Like 26 inches from the front of the splashwell to the rear of the back seat?

Don't forget, we're talking about two different models. Kevin, I would go by the specs in the wood diagram section and move forward from there.

I looked at the wood diagram and the wood is 3/4" sq pine 90" long. This is where the clamps screw into. From the diagram, it is very hard to determine where this 90" starts and ends. I'm not sure if this wood starts at the transom. According to the diagram, it appears to end about 10" from the front bulkhead.

Kevin, the wood in the floor to mount the console is 56" on center from the splashwell and 13-1/2" from the gunnel. That is where you would mount your console if you were to go by specs. Place your console there and the front and rear seats with the side seat clamps. You can adjust the whole thing forward from there.

Can anyone measure the hole for the steering cable and post the measurements? Thanks!
