I have seen drawings but the best way to do it is to drop your boat in the water with the weight it might be carrying and throw saw dust around the hull sides, then pull her and you have your outline for where to put the bottom paint...
If I had a 59 whaler, I sure wouldn't if it had never been painted...but its your party...good luck

Thanks for the advice, however in im the cold northeast & sawdust wont last in the ocean. As for the bottom paint, why not ? Thanks again for your help !

I painted my 85 15' for the first time by looking at pictures on the site.
I painted it a little low according to my best guess and will paint to the mark this season.
Paint her, makes life a whole lot easier, boats are meant to be in the water.

If you can wait until it warms up a bit, dropping her in and using a wax pencil to mark the actual water line around the hull is a very accurate way to do it.

When you drop her in at a launch area, you can get the water line marked a lot of different ways...the wax pencil is another...the saw dust does work too, your not keping it in long.
As far as the decision to paint or not paint a 1959 whaler, I guess its your party so good luck with your decision. There are a alot of reasons to paint or not paint. I simply stated My reason why I wouldn't. I own a 64 and unless it was absolutly nessessary, I wouldn't. Then again, mine has never been painted, original hull in great shape...personal decision I guess..
I know there was a drawing somewhere that had the layout for the painting of a 13...I just can't remember where...search around, they are available somewhere

My old Johnson slobbers enough crap in the water to leave a good waterline. Hmmm - something an Etec is NOT good at :o)
If you have a 2s - it may work for you. Remember to paint higher than the actual waterline to account for varying loads.

Every boat sits a little differently in the water so there is exact measurement anyone can give you. I would suggest you put it in the water for a day or so.........see exactly where the waterline is and then paint about 3/4 above that mark all the way around. I didn't really want to paint the bottom on mine either, but in salt water if you leave it in even for a short period of time the growth begins and it can be a real bugger to remove if left for any length of time.
