The first Montauks were built in 1973 on the nonsmirked 16' hulls. Then in 1976 Whaler changed the hull design to a smirked hull which stayed in production mostly unchanged until 2002. The later ones lost all of the wood on the interiors which to me ended the classic era. Each will have their one take but most any second generation Montauk "could" be considered a cassic. Heck eve the first generation could be.
