I just did my anchor compartment drain tube replacement this morning with a ball peen hammer and I have done the 1 1/4" rear drains with the flaring tool. I would highly recommend the hammer as it went very well and I already had the hammer. I had one end flared already and put the end of the ball side into the unflared end of the tube. With my girlfriend holding a hammer against the inside end I used another hammer to hit the hammer side of the ball peen hammer, this started the flare. From there I just used the ball side of the hammer to round the flare around the o ring by pounding the brass. It worked slick and I would not waste the time or money again on the flaring tool. If you really want the tool you need to specify what diameter you need as the rear drains on my boat are 1 1/4 and bilge and anchor compartment are 1". I do have the 1 1/4 flaring tool and i expect that I will not need it again for another 25 years.
