I am a newbie -- so be gentle. I have an 1987 Sport and I just bought a MotorGuide bow mounted trolling motor. The "footprint" for the "Gator" mount is just the size for that flat area outside of my bow rail -- but of course there is no underside to the deck. The instructions for mounting the plate call for nuts and bolts through the boat deck Can I screw into the deck with SS lag screws? It there plywood under the fiberglass?

Redoil,

Take a look at my personel page. I had a 1/4" aluminum plate cut and I through bolted the plate to the rub rail lip. This was on a 17' montauk. The principal should apply to a 13 footer also.

that looks great -- thanks. yesterday I used brass wood screws (2 inch) and screwed it into the flat part outside my bow rails. It seems to work fine. I found a diagram of where the wood is and drilled pilot holes -- if it comes off I will use your method.
Thanks again
