Good day to all,

Can anyone inform me the seize of the phenolic (or wood) plate which is installed under the left & right surface at the bow of a 15 foot Alert (classic sport) model where normally a trolling engine can be installed. I would like to mount a small railing on this location and therefor need to know the exact measurments.

I think you will find the information you are looking for in Downloads -> Wood Locating Diagrams -> your model...

I'm also having a bit of anxiety about mounting a bow trolling motor. The local Minkota dealer told me to find a diagram of the wood for my Montauk 150. If it's the same as the diagram Joe led us to, then there's apparently no wood in the area needed for the mount...yet I know guys have mounted motors there. I suspect that the phenolic is thick and sturdy enough to handle the motor mount.

My other issue with the mounting is the bow rail. The above mentioned dealer/installer told me he'd have to cut a side section out of the bow rail to mount it to which I rolled my eyes and left his shop. He said the bow light would get in the way as well. I will call Outboard Motor Shop in Oakland next week for advice on this and may well just do without a trolling motor period.

Dogface,

No, those diagrams and not for the new Whalers.

Go to Boston Whalers web pages and they have the newer diagrams there.

Mark, IMO, you were right to leave. OMS is the place to ask, I’ve been going there for a number of things now and they are no nonsense good guys.
