I built the RPS bench exactly to the drawings on the site, mounted the z legs to it, and went to mount. The outside screws are not finding wood, go straight through glass. Only the inside screw holes are hitting wood.

Is this due to my 1970 Nauset wood not being in the same place as a newer Montauk? I never thought about it....

I'm a bit worried, we leave for Bodega Bay in about 2 hours for the weekend, don't want this hanging over my head to sweat over.

A 1970 16'-7" hull never had a Z-legged RPS in it so the wood backing may not be the same as later models.

You could try the epoxy "hockey puck" technique on those outer screws.

What is the "honey puck" technique?

Basically you over drill the hole bigger than the original hole, then put a nail bent 90 degrees in a drill chuck (or an allen wrench), put it in the hole and use it to widen the hole under the fiberglass.

Then fill the whole thing with thickened epoxy, let set and remount to the new epoxy “puck”. It helps spread the load across a larger area of glass.
