Apply a barrier - like Interlux Interprotect 2000, then lay on the antifouling paint. Interprotect will help reduce blistering of the gelcoat, and it's a great primer.
Cliff - I did bottom jobs when I was in High school 20 years ago. Think of what OSHA would do now if they saw a 16 year old in a t-shirt and jeans with a paper mask sanding off a few layers of nasty anti-foul!
