From everything I can gather from looking at this website for a few months, What ever you do to your boat is really fine as long as you take the time to do it well. It's really doesn't matter what other people tell you as far as asthetics, because after all it is your boat. If you are building a functional fishing rig like me, do it. If you want to show it at a boat show, than a factory restoration may be neccessary. My 16 and a half came stock with a fiberglass casting platform in the front and back, so this was in the time frame they were making the bass boat.
