Is there a chemical stripper that can remove gelcoat down to glass? I am doing a total restore and want to get it down to glass as much as possible. Does anyone know of any strippers that could save me some work?

I really do not think there is anything to do that. anything that would attack the chemical make up of gel coat I would think would also attack the resin in the fiberglass. Do you plan of spraying gel coat back. I do not know how bad your project hull is but sanding it smooth will do just as good as taking it all the way off. I am working a project hull myself and I did sand to the glass in a few places where the stress cracks were really bad. I also sanded and filled a lot of cracks with 3m premium filler. I am going to spray awl grip but the prep as far as how much to remove should be about the same.

This boat has been stored outside in louisiana and I am afraid mildew has set in into the primer. I am probably going to re shoot gelcoat. Right now I am only going to take it down to glass in the really bad looking spots. I am then going to give it a good bleach bath and hope for the best.

It needs to be sanded off in places where there is spider cracking. The rest just needs to be sanded smooth and refinished.

I'm currently restoring a 1962 13' Sport and I'm to the "sand and fill" stage. Where do you get the 3M premium filler?
