Hi Dave,

I am planning to go to Isle Royal in July or August I’m flexible as to the specific date. I hear Chippewa Harbor and McCargoe Cove is calling me as it has already been a long Winter.

I have had a few sick days but for the most part I have been busy with the ministry as a chaplain at the county jail and the state juvenile detention center.

I am making some alterations on the Whaler; the drivers seat will be in two sections one for storage and one for fishing equipment. On the port side, bow and stern will be bench or chest seats for more storage. The alterations will be of oak as I have plenty of it to work with, no teak or mahogany. The alterations will begin next week with the drivers seat. I am also considering Cleaning the brown stain off the hall; or is that going to far?

God Bless,
Chaplain Hoagy

P.S. I would like to share 2007 pictures of Isle Royal but I don’t know how???

Dave -

I'm going to keep my "every other year" pattern and say "no" for me this year, though I will miss the island, and boating with you. I'll look forward to it in 2009. (on a side note, are you going to come over to the North Channel one of these summers?!).

Chaplain Hoagy -

Good to hear from you again. If you want, you may e-mail the photos to me and I can host them on a photobucket site for you. The mods sound good to me - you've certainly customized that old Whaler to fit your needs just fine. The fish don't seem to mind! Cleaning the stain off the hull isn't going too far at all! Try some oven cleaner followed by a good buffing and wax...she'll look like new. The folks on Isle Royale won't recognize you!

Cheers,

Dave

Here are some of Chaplain Hoagy's photos from last year on Isle Royale.

Check out the new bow bit on his classic Whaler!

David -

Did you ever get some canvas for your T-TOP? If this winter was any indication, the summer may be cool and wet!

Sounds like fun. I have never been there.

I presume the weather may delay travel on either end of the trip.

Hey guys,

What’s the latest on this Summers excursion to the Island? There is one guy that I know with a beat up old Boston Whaler planning on Late this July.

Wow, it's been a while since I logged in here.

A lot has changed since I started this thread in January. My primary concern about a 2008 IRNP trip is fuel prices. I fully expect diesel fuel to reach $5.00 per gallon, and gasoline to reach $4.00.

I can't even guess what prices will be like on the island. Last year, I was able to complete the entire trip without refueling.

At any rate, I'm keeping my options open.

Hi Dave,

The Island is still calling me and plans are to go sometime in the middle of July or beginning of August. Last year gas prices were about a dollar higher then mainland. Of course if anything could detour me it would be the prices of gas or my health.

The work on my new boat seat is near complete. You can expect a picture when it is done.

God bless,
Chaplain Hoagy

Well, folks, what are we thinking about this Island trip? Mid to late July will work for us, and we'd love to meet those who can make it. However this would be our first trip over and would need some prep time and info. Let us know.

This Island is still calling me and I am hoping to go late July.

My new boat seat and tackle box is finished and I would like to show it off.

God bless,
