Have a 17 Montauk 1985. 2004 Yamaha 2 stroke. Engine mounting holes do not line up as the bottom bolts screw directly into motor bracket. I saw online FasseCo uses aluminum wedges. Wanting a new Yamaha 90 four stroke. Do I need simple Jack plate or wedges?

The finished goal is to have the engine mounted 2 holes up, top bolt in the 3rd hole down from the top when using the BIA pattern.

For all the engines mounted with the bottom fasteners being bolted inth the engine bracket rather than the slots there are two recommended options.

In no order:

A) Install a bracket using the existing holes in the transom.

B) Fill the existing "blind" holes with wood plugs and epoxy and re-drill the lower holes properly.

There are pros and cons to each.

I would not go with wedges. Not aware that Read (Fasse) is using that for a Montauk 17, rather the 13' hulls that have a curved transom.

Personally I would not add more transom weight, rather fill the holes and drill new ones. It is a DIY task.

Thank you so much for your valuable advice. I like to keep things simple, so filling old holes and redrilling is a great solution. We love our Whalers.
