I have a three year old 320 vantage. Last week the starboard trim hinge corroded off and the other side looks like it will go soon. Was told that even though the piano hinge that connects the trim to the hull of the boat is the part that is deteriorating, we need to buy the complete kit.

Does anyone have experience on how long the trim should last before it needs to be replaced? Also other than the zinc tabs is there any other things we should be doing to prevent the corrosion on the piano hinge and having to replace the whole unit?

Seems like this should last longer than three years and that they should make the parts so that you don't have to replace the plate with the piano hinge.

Thanks

You may have a electrolysis corrosion issue.

If the boat is at a marina/dock, there may be stray electrical current in the water that is leading to advanced corrosion.

Take photos of the tab, the corrosion and the entire side of the transom.

Contact Whaler Technical Support as well as the trim tab manufacturer. Don't talk to a dealer sales person.
