Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: repower 1985 Outrage 18'

I am thinking about repowering my 18" Outrage. It has a F115 Yamaha now and that power is OK. It may be asked to carry more people in the future so I was thinking of a F150. The weight difference is over 100# for the 150 and I really think the F115 is a little heavy now. The boat came with a Yamaha 115 2-stroke and that seemed the perfect motor.
I just got tired of the carb issues.

I am not sworn to Yamaha, but like them in general.

The older F115 was a bit heavy for what is was - 412 lbs. The current F115 model is #386.

As for weights:

Mercury 150 XL FourStroke 455 lbs. +
Yamaha F150 XL 487 lbs.
Suzuki DF 150 XL 635 lbs.

The Suzuki DF 140B is 418 lbs.

All engines above are well liked by owners.

I have worked with more than a dozen owners in the last two years with repowers. Shop prices and availability. Some actually may have selective inventory. Orders are still taking more than 6 months. Prices are up with in-stock engines going for premium pricing.

Ballpark would be $20-$22,000 installed with basic rigging for the 150, the Suzuki DF140 is $16-$19,000.

Phil,

Thank you for that updated info. I think weight is a real issue, am I wrong?

I think it depends on where you hull sits. Some boats sit high and some sit lower despite a dry hull.

It is easy to simulate the "new" weight by adding bags of sand, jugs of water etc to the splashwell to see how she will float and her behavior before you buy the engine.

Have any photos showing her at rest from the side and looking at the transom?
