Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Do I need to adjust pitch on prop?

I have a 2005 Outrage 240 and am experience performance issues. I plane off at around 4800-5200 rpms, cruise around 5200rpm ~24-26 mph (~16.0 gph) and at WOT ~6300rpm, 35mph. I have had the engine height checked, confirmed the prop/hub is in good shape, and nothing wrong with the engine internally. I have a 15 1/2" 17p mirage plus prop. Does it make sense to go to a 19p prop?

Something is very wrong.

Based on some research I am guessing you have the 225 Optimax engine? Confirm?

What is the fuel load with the performance reported?
Does the boat:
Was engine trim used?
Does the boat have trim tabs, were they deployed?
Does the boat have a T-top?
Does the boat have bottom paint? Condition rough or smooth?

Were the fishlockers plugged and dry?

What was the passenger and gear load?

In reviewing web search results, your top speed tracks (estimated WOT of 36 mph) based on extrapolating other 240 Outrage owners with different engine setups, (i.e. twin 150's got 50mph).

What does not track is your GPH burn, It reads as very high so I suspect the engine is not operating correctly. Have you had it serviced by a Factory trained tech. Pulled the codes?

Thanks for your comment. I have a 300 HP Verado. Maintenance has been done by authorized technicians. the latest "performance test" ran, the tech confirmed "the performance is in range".

Is this boat new to you?

With that engine, you should be seeing 50mph +.

What "performance test" is that? If he/she did a water test they would note the WOT rpm/speed is horribly low.

The Verado 275 with the same prop reaches 47 mph at 6160 rpm's.

Talk to the mech.

Verify the prop hub is not spun.

See below.
