I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Montauk 17, however I have few concerns. First, one of the bow rail post screws pulled out, owner claims to have made a repair using epoxy. Is this a concern? Second the only crack on the entire boat is a 10” to 12” deep crack at the top of the anchor box. Is this a concern? Last, the owner installed a bilge pump in the rear stern compartment where the cables come out and the bilge hose is just thrown over the transom. The bilge pump isn’t a permanent installation and Mickey Moused is there a better solution? Thank you.

To repair the railing base screw.
This is a cut and paste of Finnegan's reply to the same question:
Drill out the old holes twice the diameter of the original screw, which for the #10 screws used, would be 5/16" or 3/8". Drill all the way through the wood backing. Fill hole flush with White Marine-Tex, sand and buff out smooth and polished. Center punch the nice round filled holes, and re-drill for the #10 screws, It will be a lifetime fix, and no caulking is required since the screw is now totally contained in a waterproof epoxy plug. Cured Marine-Tex holds self tapping screws like no other product you can use.
