I have a 1996 Dauntless 15' with fishing package. It still has the original 1996 Johnson 60hp 250lbs 2-stroke. The Coast Guard plate states 75hp as the max for the boat. The question I have is how much the motor weight will matter. The newer 4-strokes are 80-100lbs more with the exception of the Yamaha 60-70hp, say F70, that weighs about the same as the current motor.

My thoughts are that the Yamaha 70hp F70 would be the best max power rating to weight I can find. In fact adding 80-100lbs for the addition 5hp motors would likely provide me with less actual power on the water.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks

Your current 60hp motor weighs in 250 lbs.

The Yamaha 70hp weighs in at 253 lbs.

Basically the same weight but you will have 10hp more with the Yamaha 70. Hard to beat the Yamaha 70hp.
