You must be referring to the ETEC engine they slapped on it?? :)
The price is ridiculous (good luck!) But otherwise, I actually think it looks pretty darn nice. And it's probably in a lot better condition than before the restoration. At the very least, this Whaler will continue on for many years to come.

I believe what Finnegan is correctly commenting on is the non original parts, loser blue paint and upholstery, and a price tag that surpassed the $58,000 my Buddy just last weekend paid for a brand new 2016 Montauk 210 with a 200 Mercury Verado on the back. While their might be an, "Ass for every Seat", I believe this owner or Marina has a, "Firm Grip" on this boat unless they find a big enough ass to sell it to.

Well, certainly it's a custom. I don't care for the package but the classic teak treatment is nice. Some people love blue. I like it, too, but not on a Whaler hull.
I predict the boat will sell but not at the current price unless someone wealthy takes a liking to it.

Color choices aside, there is a lot of money in parts ( considering fuel tank, engine, fittings, railings / steering / (the Yeti cooler & cover is $500), seating fiberglass / epoxies/ sealers / paints, & labor (many hours disassembly, cleaning, filling, fairing, sanding, priming, painting, wood fabrication * finishing, reassembly, rigging etc. ) to bring a boat to this condition.
I'm not saying $78k is the right number but anyone who's done that kind of work is not going to give it away. I hope he gets it.
Plus when I get done restoring my 1984 Montauk I can list it for $65k /sarc

How bout the shiny, dash board? Industial non skid decking polished to a glare!
I do believe any engine might run and hide painted that blue.

i think the boat is gorgeous. I have a 1987 BW montauk 17 and i will be doing some resto/mods to it that will make some of you cringe. oh well, its my money and my boat.
i hope they get every penny for it.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this boat - to each his own. They only modified few parts (the gauge panel). Restoring an older Whaler is getting difficult as most of you know. Original parts are harder and harder to find. As far as paint, what's wrong with Red, White and Blue. Little patriotic tribute.
Buddy of mine just got a 1983 18' Outrage (in bad shape) and is contemplating similar set up. His sides are wobbly and need some body work and paint. Gel coat is difficult and time consuming to apply and to get it shiny. Couple of coats of Awlgrip or Imron and you can be done in half a day.
