I am interested in mounting a foot controlled trolling motor in the bow of a 1988 Outrage 18.

I was thinking of making a plate out of starboard so the trolling motor bracket could clear the lip on the bow.

is there wood in the bow that I can use to lag bolt this plate to the bow?

I mounted a Minn Kota Powerdrive 70# thrust model on the bow of my 18' 1990 Outrage in 2008. You can google
"Outrage-18: Bow Mounted Trolling Motor" to find a link with photos thoroughly describing the process, challenges and solutions.

It works well to this day, and if I were to make any changes, I might upgrade the power to somewhere in the 80# plus range.

I used the aluminum plate embedded in the fiberglass beneath the samson bit/line guide on the bow for my primary anchorage of the 1 1/2" thick aluminum "shim" required to clear the gunnel lip. I had it tapped and ground to receive A) the Minn Kota quick release base plate and B) the original samson bit. I swap the two back and forth dependent upon the mission.

It is reported that there are wood pads beneath the bow rail stanchions, but not the entire gunnel. I would suspect these are not sufficient for mounting with lag bolts.

Thanks prj!

Looks like attempting to remove the samson but is my next move.
