I have a new to me, 1988 Outrage 18 with a 1988 Mercury 150 Outboard. The motor is mounted all the way down, from what I have read, that does not seem to be correct. What position should it be? What are the negatives associated with it being mounted too low. I only had it in the water once last fall after buying it, and was rather disappointed with the performance and handling, so wondering if the motor being mounted too low was the cause. Thank you.

2 holes up is where I would mount it.

Cavitation plate even with the bottom pad of boat. Depending on the style of propeller, you may be able to go as high as 1 1/2" above the bottom pad. Props like the Turbo 1, can run at the higher position.
