I just bought a 2006 170 Montauk and noticed the console is loose. I need to rebolt the console and am looking for ideas how best to do this. The console has been moved about an inch from the original position.

When you say "loose" does that mean the fasteners are stripped. You can re drill the holes, fill them with epoxy, then drill pilot holes in the epoxy to secure the screws.
Why was the console moved?

I just bought the boat and afterwards noticed the console was moved about an inch, so I'm not sure why it was moved other than someone banged into the console and broke the mounts - as a guess. I'm concerned about refastening it properly to the deck so that its secure and water tight. I was thinking of having it professionally done and getting a quote.

I have used epoxy with the addition of wooden splinters in the holes with the epoxy. Another method is to drill out the hole wider and use Marine Tex to fill the holes. Both methods require pilot hole. With the splinters too big will throw off the cinching so dry fit before the epoxy to feel the "bite". I am glad I found out about the Marine Tex here. Using it for replacing mooring cover snaps.

There are pieces of backing material (phenolic a.k.a Whalerboard) in the floor to support the attachment of the console.
Re-attaching the console is a straight forward task. If the holes are enlarged or screws don't have good bite, you can fill them with a 2 part epoxy (comes in a two tube injector) or use Marine Tex.
