Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Do not laugh (I'm very sensitive}

So I have a 1988 15' Sport CC which I have come to love.
When I bought it a few years ago the bilge drain plug was inserted from the outside of the transom.
But I notice that it could just as easily be inserted from inside the transom in the bilge.
After those few years, I am risking my boat cred. by asking.,....."where should it go ?"
Thanx for any

From the inside.

Starfighter,
I was laughing right up until Phil gave an answer contrary to my belief that it should be on the outside. Further proof that it was not a stupid question and definitely a nod to the old adage, "Live and Learn"...

See page 13 of the 9'-17' Boston Whaler Owners Manual
http://www.whalercentral.com/download...p?cat_id=5

It says that basically:
"On 17 foot models or Limited models equipped with optional stern decks, access to the rear floor sump drain is restricted. The drain plug on these models can be installed from outside the transom."

End quote from above.
All the other models should be placed inside so you can remove them while boating if necessary.
Example:
If you take a wave over the bow, there would be no way to remove the plug to let the water out if the plug was installed from the outside. (or very difficult and inconvenient to say the least)

So, according to Boston Whaler, Drain Plugs go on the inside when at all possible.

Or, if you have installed a bilge pump in the sump, the outside is a good option. Otherwise I believe the inside is a better location. If you happen to be capable of forgetting to install the drain plug before you launch your boat you'll have learned that it is much easier to install the plug inside the boat than to lean over the transom with the engine in the way to install the drain plug.

I'm not saying how I learned that particular piece of wisdom.

If a plug can be reached from the inside that would be the better choice over the outside for obvious reasons.

Then again, if you plug it from the outside there is no chance of water getting inside the hull. If I have a boat moored I'd plug it from the outside.

MG56 that is probably true but a Whaler doesn't sink so when you reach/row to your mooring it is better to find the plug on the inside of the boat than disappeared to the bottom of the sea.
