This Whaler is near my house (Sutton, MA) so I stopped in to ask about the boat. The owner didn't want to talk with me. I guess he would miss using it as a dumpster for his trash

Save the Whales! Er, I mean save the Whalers! I am surprised that you didn't tell him that if he didn't want inquiries about it, he should probably take the words, "rescue" off the side, although that is so fitting.

I know that area, I spent a few years living in Oxford a while back.
Are you sure you it was the owner you spoke with? Those electric meters say rental property. Any rational human would jump at a fistful of cash for that thing. Maybe the property owner left it there because he has no other place to put it? Maybe he's not a boater and acquired it as collateral for something or in place of cash? ...and uses it to store his irrigation pipes, and the tenants throw their recycling and trash?
I've you're interested I'd say keep hovering around. See if you can find the property owners name in the Sutton property tax files, most likely public information which can be found online. Then find his email or phone number...
Good luck! Maybe it'll pop up on Craigslist.

It is a rental property. I spoke with the owners sister in-law. She told me her sister would love to get it sold and out of the yard so she gave his phone number. No dice, he's not interested in selling. LOL

Haha, that's awesome. Before getting hung up on I would have spit out a cash offer. ....but in MA that's risky because without a title you'd be SOL.
I had a college adviser with a friend who collected old VW's. She gave me his contact info, so I went to check 'em out. He must have had over 3 dozen bugs all rotting in his yard. I foolishly asked if I could buy one, and he couldn't let them go. It was all good because they'd be good for nothing more then parts.
