A friend of mine has one of those 170 Montauk Karavan trailers under his classic Montauk. As far as i am concerned, shame on Whaler for putting such a cheap trailer under a 170 Montauk. It is one of the most minimally designed and outfitted trailers you can buy. Karavan is considered a good brand, but Whaler really cheaped out on specifying this one. There is nothing to it.

It only has two cross members, bolted instead of welded, which gives the trailer very little laterally strength and will cause squeaks and eventaully rust at the bolts. the frame is hollow tubing instead of structural "C" Channel. Cross members are what make a trailer solid and rigid. Then it only has two bunks to support the boat. Bunks are a fraction of the cost of an array of Stoltz rollers on SS shafts.

In this one, you get what you pay for, and that is not much. I would think twice about buying one. On my personal page, take a look at the 2000# carrying capacity trailer under my classic Montauk. There is no comparison between the two trailers. And it cost $1350 including the Stoltz 12" keel roller.

Phil - this trailer may work for your 17 Outrage also? It is model CV-7
