Hi there. I am new to Whaler Central.

Wanted to get some feedback.

I have recently acquired a 1963 Montauk 17 with a 2005 Yamaha 75 4-stroke with 150 hours on it.

Its been on a lift in Marco Island, FL and hasn't move or been started, until I got it about 6 months ago, in about 8 years.

The boat is rough to say the least. Soft spots in the floor, the helm is a fiberglass side console with the two low seats on the front of it. its not not connected to to the hull any more. Pretty much everything has succumbed to the southwest Florida elements.

As far as the engine, I drained all fluids and gas, rebuilt the water pump and replaced all lower unit seals, thermostat, plugs and ignition. She fires up and pee's but I can't get her to idle. Above 2500 rpm she runs pretty smooth.

I figure all the engine needs is a carb job.

My plan was to get the engine running and sell it and scrap the hull.

What I'd like to know if there is any interest in these old worn out Montauk hulls for restoration jobs or is it pretty much worthless now.

Any input would be great.
