I need to replace the fuel tank on a 1995 Montauk 17 with an Evinrude 90 2 stroke.
My mechanic installed one with the new EPA system and cap and the pressure became too high.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Harvey

Did you save your old tank? Just re-use the manually-vented cap.

Current portable tanks include a re-designed cap that has a pressure release controlled vent. The vent is designed to open only when the pressure reaches more than 5 psi. Many owners have complained of the tank deforming due to pressure buildup.

I personally found the new cap/vent led to fuel spilling out from too much pressure in the tank.

Common suggestion is to replace the new cap/vent with the old style:

Thanks guys
I think the best solution is the Moeller 22
Bigger than I wanted but it is the same tank I have on my 170 and I know it will work
