Hi all,

New Member in Maine... Just purchased a 1973 Sakonnet and have a few questions.... She is in 100% original condition, gelcoat still shiny...Mahogany needs refreshing, but, very nice... 1st splash for me was yesterday...

1. I'd like to get the battery on center... I'm thinking inside the seat in the storage area.. This would mean, cutting/drilling into the original deck into the existing tunnel to run the wires... Thoughts?

2. The splash well drain is blocked by the motor mounting plate against the hull... Wont drain... Is there some kind of stand off mounting plate that I can get to eliminate this issue? Motor is 1988 Johnson 90. Thoughts/ideas? I know I can't be the only one to have come across this, did a search came up empty.

3. WOT is 39.6mph with 13" X19" aluminum prop. RPM's are maxed at 4650.. Doesn't sound right to me... I called my prop shop and they are sending me a 13X17 , polished SS prop to try.... Thoughts?

Thanks all!

Welcome to WhalerCentral. I am from South Portland but currently reside in KY.

#2/3

It reads as if the motor is mounted all the down and resting on the transom. I would also guess the bottom set of bolts are through the blind holes or lags.

Motors installed prior to 2000's tended to be put on too low by mechanics and dealers.

To solve #2 and also help with #3, I would suggest you review the engine mounting articles in the reference section:

I would hold off on the prop till you review the engine mounting issue.
