The transducer for my Garmin Fishfinder 400C is mounted on the port side of the transom, 13 inches on center from the boat's centerline. Its lower surface is roughly in line with the bottom of the hull, but with a slight downward angle. It works pretty well, but does lose its fix on the bottom occasionally at higher speeds. I think it needs to be lowered slightly.
