It's advertised as a 1972 17 Montauk.
I don't think that is correct.
The hull number was located on the outside of the hull on the right side of the transom. The hull number is 3A5589.
Is it a Boston Whaler?

Lots of incorrect information there.

The first Montauk was not made until 1973.
Also, the Stencil number was never on the outside of the boat.

3A5589 would make it a 1972 16 model but without any photos we can't tell you what model it is.

It was not a stencil, it was etched into the hull.
