The 55 will be plenty. 12 volt will run for most of the day just working the banks. There are many ways to mount a trolling motor to a Montauk. I wanted mine mounted on the center line of the boat and not have any hanging over the side. So had to make a stainless steel plate (aluminum would work) and have a hole patched. The back bolt has a backing plate and a lot of 5200. I have a quick connect on the left side of the console just behind the cooler. The battery is in the console. We fish the creeks all over the Charleston SC area. The Montauk is perfect for that. Good luck on your install.
