I pretty much agree with DoubleU. Here is my logic, however it may be flawed in others opinions. A cosmetic restoration, decent new trailer, and a little work on the motor, (if you are lucky), will mean you probably have $4-5000 in costs when you are done. Add that to $1000-$1500 max purchase price as it sits right now and you will be in it for up to $6500.00 for a boat with original power. I know this boat is more rare, but I regularly see older 17 foot Montauks for sale that have been repowered within the last couple of years for the $7000-$9000 range.
