150 Sport 2008

I assembled a Carver Bimini top but it seems too wide for my 150 Sport. My boat has safety rails installed on both side decks and they wrap around the bow. The hinge ends of the Bimini top frames will not fit inside of the railing nor outside. Either way, if I force a fit the unit will look awful and probably won't be functional. The Bimini came with the boat disassembled and uninstalled. I assembled it correctly. The Carver installation video shows a boat without side rails. I bought braces for the unit. What the heck is going on?

I think that the hinge ends of the frames will fit into stainless rod holders that I clamp on the outside of the railings. The unit would sit higher but at least I could use it. With the straps and braces it might be secure when the boats at rest.

Has anybody else had this problem? I might have to abandon the Bimini top project.

Does anybody want this rig? I'm giving it away. It's a Carver, 3-bow, red, brand new, assembled. I will not take it apart nor ship it. I will dispose of it in a week if nobody wants it. Today is April 17.

The distance between the two hinge ends is 75" more or less.

March 17, sorry.

This rig is in my garage in Amherst, MA. Somebody please come and take this thing away.

It might work as a framework to support the middle of my boat cover, if I cut the length of the frame pieces. Maybe I'll use it for that and utilize my stainless rod holders as sockets to hold the ends of the frame pieces. Maybe that would help prevent pooling of rain or snow melt.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in my offer so I'm thinking creatively.

I can't do anything to it. I'm just going to let it sit until someone picks it up. It's in perfect condition for a Bimini Top.
Still interested?

It's yours. I will keep it in the garage. I return from a trip abroad on April 4. Maybe we can arrange for you to pick it up the following weekend. How does that sound and where is Norwell?

I will not divulge my phone numbers in forums online so we will resume discussion in April on this thread. Is that OK with you? We'll arrange a meeting place and you can follow me to the house. Unless you have a better idea. I feel like a spy arranging a drop-off.

Sounds great, buchanan. You'll hear from me in around three weeks. I'll unscrew the frames to make it more portable and maybe we can meet somewhere a bit more convenient than where I live. You'll hear from me around April 4 or so.
Refer to this thread around that time. Happy St. Pat's Day.

What is the size of the bimini top? The recommended size for the 2008 Sport 150 is 54" H x 67"-72" W x 6' length. Per your notes, I think you may have a top that fits 73"-78" instead which would be too wide. Have you contacted the dealer/online retailer that you purchased the top from?

I have a couple of example photos I can email or you can view them on our site at:

http://www.carvercovers.com/bimini-to...o-gallery/

Sort by Type (Round Tube Bimini Tops)
Sort by Manufacturer (Boston Whaler)

One of the photos shows an example of an inside mount (of the rails) and the 2nd photo shows an outside mount of the rails.

Thank you for your response. My brother-in-law must have received the wrong-sized top from the marina owner/dealer many years ago. He didn't know it because he didn't have it installed. I am not inclined to take the project any further. Good product, though.
