There is a fish well in the back of my lowpro 19 which is just like the one in the stern of the classic whaler 19 outrage. It seems to be about a 20 -25 gallon well, has anyone ever used this for a Baitwell. How would one plumb this to use a Baitwell. Like to fill it. Curious how the weight would affect the back of the boat.
Anyone ever use this well for it intended purpose?

Mount a small pump underwater on the transom and have it pump into the cover of the well. The excess will run out through the two scupper holes in the transom. Works great to keep a bunch of Lobsters alive.

Archie -

While waiting for others to respond, let me offer my perspective having owned a weight sensitive boat.

The classic Outrage 19 is not know for being sensitive to stern weight, I would posit that adding 165 lbs (20 gal * 8.35lb/gal) to the stern with a high horsepower 4 stroke or DFI on the transom of a will lead to a significant decrease in buoyancy. Most of what I have read is members filling them with foam.

You can test it by adding standing in the well at the dock and observing.

Then again, I am a Downeast guy used to open ocean where gunnel height is requisite.

I have a 1992 outrage 19 I. I use a 14 gallon livewell in the stern of the boat. I also have a newer 4 stroke motor. The added weight to the stern has not been an issue.

Archie - Are you referring to the 1970's Outrage 19 or the 1990 + version of the Outrage 19?

Archie states he has a Low Pro 19 so I assume it is the 1970's banana hull which has a nice fish well under the engine. Back when I commercially dove for Lobsters I could fit a lot of Lobsters in that fish hold.

I agree with Phil-Adding that much weight to the stern is not a great idea. Sure, you can do it, but the boat will not handle as well, and start to look like it's ready to take off. The upper drains will also take on water.

Archie,

I have a 1974 LO-PRO with a 1993 Yamaha 150 two stroke. I can walk to the back to my engine and it doesn't squat a bit. I weigh 200 pounds. So with that being said if your boat doesn't sit to low now I wouldn't worry with the added weight.

Mine is a 1997 Dauntless 17 ft. I use the right side "Stern quarter seats" as cooler. I am wondering too if I can use the stern floor storage with bilge pump as live well?
