Hi Whalers,

I have a 1987 15 foot Custom CC that I recently purchased, and unfortunately it didn't come with a cover. Is there a place that sells a cover made for this model? I want to make sure it gets covered well for this rainy season. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Check with Carver, a sponsor of this site. They make excellent covers and are a good value.

I have been looking for a replacement cover since I added the optional bow rail to my 1976 Sport 15 and I have not yet had success.

The cover I originally had was a Mills mooring cover (original one from 1976; version for Sport 15 without bow rail option)...a fantastic cover.

Since adding the bow rail I first tried Specialty Marine (they have a version for the "classic 15 with bow rail"). I spoke to them about this cover and they indicated this was for either the Super Sport 15 with wrap around style bow/side rail or the Sport 15 with optional bow rail...it didn't fit and I returned it. SM indicated during the return process this was a defect and was being corrected by the manufacturer. I haven't re-ordered as I really wasn't excited about the quality compared to the Mills cover but the price was certainly right of course.

I next called Carver and their cover designed for the 15 with bow rail will not fit as it's designed for the Super Sport 15 with the wrap-around version of the bow rail.

So this leads me back to the Mills cover which I confirmed directly with them it will definitely fit...but it's a $1000 and I can't bring myself to lay out that kind of cash since I store my boat in the garage and would only use the cover for trips to the beach, etc. That said if I were to store the boat outside of my garage there is no question I would get the Mills...the quality is unmatchable (after cleaning it and re-waterproofing it my 1976 Mills mooring cover looked near new after 40 years which is amazing).

That's good info guys. My boat will be parked on the driveway so definitely need to cover it.

The Mills cover sounds like a good quality cover but $1000 is quite pricey. Although it will be worth it in the long run. My boat has really high now rails, so I'm wondering if it'll fit. You think that rail will fit under the cover?

Thanks guys!

Given the height of the central console the version for the Sport 15 with optional bow rail probably won't. However, Mills is the OEM producer of covers for Boston Whalers. Give them a call and discuss directly with them. I bet they have a version that will fit perfectly: http://www.millscanvas.com.

Also, I have one other thought. There is a canvas shop in town here in Raleigh NC that does custom high quality stuff. They quoted making a custom cover for me at about the same as the Mills ($1000). If there is a similar shop in your area you could bring the boat to them and have them make a custom fit cover. This way there would be no question about the fit. The disadvantage would be the design of how the cover attaches. Mills used special gunnel clips that clip around the age of the gunnel - very nice finish. I doubt that option would be available through a local shop unless you could purchase the clips from Mills and have the local shop utilize them.

I checked out a local shop/dealer that sells mainly Whalers and recommended that I have one custom made. This shop sells many types of covers but he looked at my boat and it is different from normal 15 CC. The CC on mine is a raised Montauk CC with those bow rails. There's a shop that does custom covers for $40 per linear fee, and looks like i'll need 20 feet, so it's not too bad.

On a side note, it looks like I'll have a new F70 on the boat soon.

As always, thanks for all the help and info.

Bought a trailerable cover from National Boat Covers that fits quite well on my 15 with a bow rail, is made from strong fabric, and was about $425. Here is the website: http://www.nationalboatcovers.com/

Looking at your picture it doesn't look "standard" and a local canvas makers might be the best option, but I bought and Endura custom fit cover for my newer 15' Montauk via the internet and it fits perfectly for less than $400 with 10 year warranty and I trailer easily at 75mph. http://boatcovers.iboats.com/?cart_id...=642977501
