For use in San Francisco Bay and the Delta, is there much difference in the ride of these two boats? It gets kinda snotty out here!

The Dauntless has a more "V" type bottom and therefore "slams" a little less and cuts through a little better. Both Models can handle more snotty weather than you can.

If it were me, I would want more LOA to deal with lumpy washboard sea state you get in the bay.

2' makes a huge difference in ride quality. I learned this the hard way.

Consider a gently used 2010 or later Outrage 190 or Montauk 210.

I agree with Phil T. No 17 foot boat including a Whaler could take anything but a pretty nice day on the Bay. The difference will be with you going out when you want within reason versus only going out on the "nice" days.

OP here. Thanks for the advice. Will keep this in mind as I look. I had a 19 Larson CC once that did fine in the bay and even in the ocean(but not near SF). Perhaps a 19 or longer Whaler is what I need for this locale. But is the 190 Montauk still a hard rider in the chop? Thanks again.

Yes the Montauk is a harder rider due to the difference in dead rise between Dauntless, Outrage, and Montauk. Not a deep-V
