I have a 1996 outrage 19 and am repowering with a new suzuki. Would a 175 hp be adequate or should I go with the new 4 cylinder 200?
Using the boat in SW FL mostly cruising/diving.

I would say the 200 based on the hull and the need for speed to return to port to dodge a thunderstorm.

Your boat is rated for max hp of 225.

Only 25 pounds more for the 200hp over the 175hp

I have a 1988 outrage 22 feet with whalerdrive. have "T' top.
Currently powered by 200 1988 mercury.

looking to go to 4 stroke. Thinking about 200 or 225 mercury verado?

Any issue with extra weight? 200 or 225?

thoughts?

chica267, Your 22 Outrage with Whalerdrive i believe is rated for 300 hp. If they could handle twin 150 hp outboards you will not have a problem putting a single 200 or 225 hp engine.

Chica,

The Gen 2 Verado 200 is an L4 four cylinder engine. The 225 is an L6 six cylinder engine. The added weight of two more cylinders and a gain of only 25 HP seems pretty close to break even to me.

I recommend the 200.

New Suzuki 200 for sure. It is supposed to be a real strong motor. Everyone in my area that has run one has been very satisfied with the power and the fuel economy.
