Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Using Keel Guard with keel roller trailer - Outrage

I need some advice from those of you with experience in this subject. I have searched the site for Keel Guards and can't find the exact answer I need. I have a 1990 Outrage 19 on a trailer with carpeted bunks and keel rollers. I am told by my fiberglass guy that the keel rollers will rip the keel guard off. Have any of you had this problem with the keel rollers ripping the keel guard off?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

From the Keel Guard website installation instructions

Note: If your trailer is designed with the weight of the boat resting on the rollers or a support beam along the keel, we do not recommend installing a keel protector. If the rollers can be lowered or the side bunks raised to clear the rollers, the Keel Guard adhesive bond will not be compromised.

You can install the guard on the forward part of the keel, from the smirk down to a point just before the forward roller. If you taper (bevel the edge of the keel guard with a knife) the edge, the roller will not cause the guard to come unattached.

I have seen photos and read the post install results from a member a few years ago.

I had a keel guard on my 15 for about 10 years with no issues, bunk/roller trailer.

Thanks everyone for your input. I may do some adjusting to my trailer and try to add a keel guard. I do a fair amount of beaching and I can see that a keel guard would be helpful.
