The C-8 is a straight cross frame trailer, and has been replaced in the line by a CV-8, which has a slight cross frame "v".
The trailers are made of all welded hot rolled mill structural steel channel section. I have never seen any deflection in the frame members under load. The straight frame cross member may be stronger than the v cross member since there is no weld mid section.
The trailers all work fine for me.
