Looks like I am settling on a 2005 Whaler w a Merc 2 Stroke saltwater, the entire rig could pass for a 2014.
Its been in storage for years due to a health issue and a new tank and fuel have been added.
It is 2 X the $$$ of the 1978 I was looking at $13,500, but -0- issues I can see. It did come w a bimini top and cover he cant find...I will need a bimini top and it does not have the hardware (eyelets and mounts) for the bimini, so he could have forgot and it may not have came with it new?
The problem for me was this Whaler or a 2004 20' Key West left out side its entire life, has Yama 150 4 Stroke T Top trim tabs, jack plate, 2 live wells, etc...
I will be fishing bays and jetty's and -0- long trips, I do like to fish w Live Bait!
4-5 hour trips max boat time, excluding travel to and from launch.
My logic is in 5 years the Whaler be worth X and the Key West will be worth X-2 ?
Is my logic sound or clouded ? I really appreciate you guys opinions, seriously!

I have a 2006 Montauk 170. It has the Mercury 90 fuel injected 4 stroke on it. Love the boat.

A Key West isn't a bad boat, but it's not a Whaler. Personally (but I'm biased) given the choice of a Whaler that's been kept inside vs. a Key West that's been kept outside, I'd take the Whaler. The two stroke is the downside.

I don't think the lower build quality of the Key West will last in the elements as well as a Whaler.

Keep in mind the higher resale value of the whaler.
