We have a 1987 15' sport model with a 70hp Johnson outboard. It was very hard to shift into gear. My husband took the control box apart a found a broken tooth on the shift and throttle assembly. After searching many hours I found that the part is no longer available. Can someone recommend a economical replacement control box that would fit our model.

Don't know where you are or how old the motor is but if it is an 1987, finding parts or someone to fix the problem can be difficult. I have had numerous "old" motors, repaired, refurbished etal. by Keith at K and D Marine in Mt. Clemens MI. You might want to reach out to Keith. People who work on old motors are hard to find and Keith is very good. If anyone can find the part, he can. Tell him "Reel Easy" Jim sent you. Phone number on K and D Marine web site.
