Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: AFT Seats for a 2011 Montauk 170

I am in the process of purchasing a used Montauk 170 2011 model. I just recently sold my 2011 130 SS BW in two days and while I was a huge fan of that boat, anything more than two adults and 1-2 kids on a tube made the 40HP struggle to get up on plane. I fish near shore in the FL Panhandle and Dune Lakes. I am curious if anyone in our group has discovered any after market aft seat options? The dealer installed aft fold down seats are $1800.00 plus and the Aft bench is in the 2800.00 range. BW makes a fine seat but wondering if there is any other options I have yet to identify to get the family of five on the boat for a day of cruising?

Best,
Eric

I started a thread about a week or two ago asking the same question but got no responses.

I agree, the price of those seats is ridiculous for what you get. Yes, they are nice, but not $1500+ nice.

In searching around, I saw what seemed like a few options that should work. I saw some seats by Tempo (?) or maybe Tempress (?) and other manufacturers that could be adapted to the purpose. I also saw some nice low-slung, upholstered, folding chairs that might even be a better idea. No, they would not necessarily be hard-mounted in place, but they would be easily removable when you don't need them aboard.

Here are some ideas:

These could be mounted on the boarding "steps" (as done on the 190) with a swivel base:

These would sit on deck just ahead of the "steps", which is where the 170 oem seats are mounted anyway:

Or you could go really simple:

Good luck -- the Montauk 170 looks like a fantastic platform for your family.

Get some good marine bean bag chairs !! Much more comfortable and mobile than built-in seats !

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here, but owning a Montauk 170 of the same vintage, I personally wouldn't want the stern obstructed by a seat on either side. We have as many as 7 people in our Montauk every once in a while. Yes, it is tight. I think sitting in the bow is probably a better alternative. We're constantly going up and down the ladder and stern platform. I'd hate to think of stepping over something every time.

Thanks for the input- I made a deal on the boat that made the high price on the aft seats not that crazy. I plan to run this BW over the next few months and provide the group on the SW seats feedback.
