You will need a square mounting plate that is at least 5 inches wide by 5 inches long to screw into the non-skid area of the floor substrate, which is a wider dimension than the rig tunnel area. This way you do not screw hardware through the rig tunnel. You will need to mount the round base plate of the pole to the square plate, using flush head bolts facing up, with nut and washer.

Mount the horizontal supports right next to the stern interior eyelets.

As background, Boston Whaler used a mounting plate installed on the floor with the optional ski pylon that was available on the Super Sport Limited 17 model.

I personally would not install the kit you chose because it is designed for installation using backing plates. The kit also has structural limitations and will reduce your stern area use on your Montauk.

A bridle attached to the exterior stern tow eyelets is the best way to go on a Montauk 17.
