I wonder if anyone can suggest a source for a pair of fiber glass gunnel covers for a 1989 22' Boston Whaler Outrage. My project boat had teak gunnels and these can be easily reproduced but the maintenance aspect of fiber glass is appealing to me.

I doubt if you will be able to find a set of recreational boat fiberglass gunnels other than in terrible condition.

Your best bet wouild be to contact Whaler Commercial Products to see what they offer. Although the 22' hulls are no longer being offered, they may still have molds/patterns available to make something for you. I know they did them in aluminum on many of the Guardians.

Your budget will dictate as to who will provide the desired gunwale covers.
Competent fiberglass shop will easily accommodate your needs.
Good plastic supplier outlets will provide a variety of thicknesses,colors and custom lengths to recover your "top sides" for this model.
I personally widely prefer wood for look and personality for My Girl.

Not sure of the look you want but a compromise might be a product called Nau-Teak. It is a manufactured product that is designed to look like teak. I suggest that you would think it teak from twenty feet away. It requires no upkeep and is tough.

Please forgive my error. The faux teak is called "PlasTeak". The gunwhale covers and cargo bin lids were made from what the company calls trim lumber which comes in a multitude of sizes. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided that I wanted to avoid the maintenance of teak and still wanted to stay somewhat original. Thus I opted to fabricate fiberglass covers. I built both a port and starboard plug from which I made a fiberglass mold. Next I will make the parts from the new mold. Loads of work for a one off but I couldn't think of any options...

Congratulations on some of the finest Whaler restoration work I have ever seen. It is truly astonishing what you have accomplished and to see the level of your skills. The boats are beautiful.

You have quite a facility there also. Is is solely for the boat restoration business, or some other manufacturing/servicing operation?

Thank you for the incredible compliment. I don't do this full time only on weekends as I can fit the time in. My shop is not a boat restoration shop but instead a shop where i provide custom scenery to film productions - both TV and feature films.

Hi Bob, The moulds I made were somewhat specific to my needs - For example, I changed the locations of the non skid to allow for downrigger mounting plates. Also given the distance and thus the shipping cost you may prefer to follow the suggestion of bcoastal and contact Angels Marine.
