The topic of tank cover repair is well documented here (thank you Jeff, your dad, and others). One piece of the process that has not been discussed in the installation of the repaired deck lid. I am contemplating using a two inch wide by 1/4 inch thick , adhesive backed neoprene strip secured to the underside of the deck lid perimeter. I would then drill out all existing screw mounting holes and fill with epoxy. New screw holes would be drilled, sealant injected and screwed(thank you Don McIntyre). Install some type of insulating sleeve on the filler neck and the fuelline to the motor. This sleeve would be length enough to fit snugly between the installed deck lid and the top of the fuel tank. Purpose of this is to give firm base for sealants applied around those two pipes. Also contemplating leaving an open tube through the filler neck hole, much like a drainage tube in a surgical incision, which could be uses for a siphon. Probably use silicone caulk on floor joint and old screw holes. Any thoughts out there about the process and particularly about the use of the neoprene as a sealant?
